The management of the StudentLoanist donates 10% of the income from student registrations to charity. The December 2011 donation was to the Salvation Army. They have many programs with lots of different ways to help people, and according to their website they helped 30 million people during the year 2008.

Last night I watched a tv show that was reviewing a website set up to collect donations for individuals so that they could fund inventions, musical recordings, books and other products that require start up capital. Over the past 2 1/2 years the website has recieved over 100 million dollars in donations. Now, what is interesting is that these donors sent the money to the individuals with no guarantee that the money would be spent as intended. The money went right into the individuals bank accounts to spend as they determine is appropriate. The donors sent money based on good faith. Personally, I dont think I would send money to some unknown person for something that they “might” do.
Accountability is one of the things that makes the StudentLoanList so great. Students pay a very small fee to be on the list, and because of the way we process donations, our donors will know that their donations are being used 100% toward the student loan debt of the anonymous individual that they select to assist.

Ex-Citigroup CEO Sandy Weill plans to donate the proceeds of the sale of his Manhattan penthouse to charity !
No, he didnt specifically mention the StudentLoanList in his press release, but we here at the StudentLoanList applaud Sandys concern for society and his kind spirit in making the donation.
The apartment sold for $88 million dollars, and the buyer paid full asking price. Not bad in todays Real Estate market !
Information for this blog note came from an article written by Julie Zeveloff (msnbc.com money).

Is it absurd to design a website that will be based on finding donors to make it successful? I think not. America as well as other countries have a history of sharing funds to help the needy. The difference about this website is that the definition of needy is somewhat different. While the students who register and list on the website are probably not starving and most likely have not recently suffered damage from a tornado or hurricane (although not entirely impossible)…..the intelligent students and graduates who are burdened with student loan debt are the future leaders of America. How could their lives and their contributions to society be different and enhanced if they are free from enormous debt ?
Our donors and potential donors have the ability to help the future by relieving our hard working young people from the stress of student loan debt.
Philanthropy exists in America ! Read about it in this article from CNN Money

October 29, 2011. Today we drove by the campus do the School of Mines in Golden,Colorado. What a beautiful campus it has!
The trees were showing their amazing fall colors, and it was a beautiful sight to see. An interesting note about the School from Wikipedia “most notably, Colorado School of Mines is ranked #1 among top Universities by salary potential”.
