Seeking Donations

September 28th, 2012 — 4:03am

20120927-225737.jpg

This week we were in Waco,Texas looking for donations for an individual registered on the StudentLoanList who has $61946 in student loan debt. That’s at least twice the average debt of recent graduates! My first house (ok it was a condo) only cost $25000 or so. I hope someone in Waco will come thru with a donation for our registered individual. Who knows where this picture was taken?

StudentLoanList average debt $68,204

May 16th, 2012 — 3:39am

I have seen statistics that quote the average student loan debt at the time of graduation to be $25,000. I have also seen it listed as $27,000.  Either number is a lot of money, in fact both are more than my parents paid for a nice 4 bedroom house in southern California back in 1963. Might have been 1964.  Regardless, the payments are going to be difficult  for someone in an entry level job, and the loan balance will keep some graduates from being able to purchase a car on qualify for a mortgage.  Now think about how $68,000 will affect a person. I calculated a payment of $688 on a 10 year note at 4%.  Ouch, payments like that are going to be painful.   No wonder some students choose to defer those loan payments and  stay in school pursuing more and more education until they cant go anymore !  A Doctorate is grand, but it means you have to look that student loan square in the eye and start making payments.  And guess what….. graduates with that level of education usually  have a student loan balance closer to $100.000.  Donors, please register on the studentloanlist and help our students. Pursuing higher education is a great thing, and  its just a shame that tution and fees have gone up so much that it makes paying cash for schooling nearly impossible.

February 28th, 2012 — 12:16am

One way to decrease your need for student loans is to obtain a scholarship. A quick search of the Internet found several unique scholarships listed. Stuttgart,  Arkansas  Chamber of Commerce sponsors a duck calling contest with $2000 going to the winner. Tall clubs International has $1000 scholarships to tall ( men 6’2 women 5’10 ) first year students. You might also consider the $7500  Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year award, The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship ($5000). If you are a graduate student who wants to study potatoes then you might like to look into the Potato Industry Scholarship ($2000). There are many more scholarships available too.  Ask around, do your research and put in lots of applications. Good luck !

Welcome to the StudentLoanList blog

December 18th, 2011 — 5:04pm

The website is finally up and running! We hope to be able to help some students by finding donors to assist with making payments on their school loans ( or even pay them off), and we hope to help donors by giving them a place to make a donation with the knowledge that 100% of their money will be used as they intended.
