Charitable Donations on the Rise

February 20th, 2012 — 8:57pm

According to information found on the website philanthropy.com   , America’s top 50 donors gave a total of $10.4-billion in 2011, which was noticably more than the 3.3 billion donated in 2010.   29 people donated  50 million or more including the bequest of   Margaret A. Cargill of  6 billion, and the bequest of   William S. Dietrich II  of  500 million.

I always say that you never know what may happen in your future, and I just love the story of how during  2004 Mr. Robert L . Tidwell told a childrens  hospital  he wanted to donate a computer. He was offered a tour of the facility by members of  the hospital foundation, and then last year when he died it was discoverd that he had left $30 million to the  foundation.

Accountability

December 27th, 2011 — 9:39pm

Last night I watched a tv show that was reviewing a website set up to collect donations for individuals so that they could fund inventions, musical recordings, books and other products that require start up capital. Over the past 2 1/2 years the website has recieved over 100 million dollars in donations. Now, what is interesting is that these donors sent the money to the individuals with no guarantee that the money would be spent as intended. The money went right into the individuals bank accounts to spend as they determine is appropriate. The donors sent money based on good faith.  Personally, I dont think I would send money to some unknown person for something that they “might” do.

Accountability is one of the things that makes the StudentLoanList so great. Students pay a very small fee to be on the list, and because of the way we process donations, our donors will know that their donations are being used 100% toward the student loan debt of the anonymous individual that they select to assist.

Notable donation to charity planned

December 22nd, 2011 — 10:19pm

Ex-Citigroup CEO  Sandy Weill  plans to donate the proceeds of the sale of his Manhattan  penthouse to charity !

No, he didnt specifically mention the StudentLoanList in his press release, but we here at the StudentLoanList applaud Sandys concern for society and his kind spirit in making the donation.

The apartment sold for $88 million dollars, and the buyer paid full asking price. Not bad in todays Real Estate market !

Information for this blog note came from an article written by Julie Zeveloff  (msnbc.com money).
